Rook piercings typically take 6-12 months to heal completely due to the thick cartilage and limited blood flow in this area. Initial healing occurs in the first 6-8 weeks, but complete healing takes much longer. The healing process can vary based on your anatomy, aftercare routine, and individual healing factors.

Clean twice daily with sterile saline solution, avoid sleeping on the pierced ear, and be careful when washing or styling your hair. Avoid touching or rotating the jewelry unnecessarily. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and are always available to answer questions during your healing journey.

How do I get my jewelry changed?

I think my piercing might be infected or unhappy - what should I do?

It could be, but often times it is caused by irritation such as bumping, catching, playing with, clothing choices or sleeping on the piercing. Any of these can lead to the jewelry not fitting correctly and this in turn can cause more swelling and redness. We have several solutions to fixing the issues depending on the situation and your body type. We start with the most general and from there narrow it down to the best fit for you. We can usually get any issue under control without losing the piercing but we want to be as proactive as possible, so please come see us with any concerns and if we think you need to see a Dr. we will let you know.

What is the normal drainage from a new piercing?

You may notice some drainage coming from a new piercing in it's healing phase. While this is normal for any new piercing(some more than others) the drainage should be a yellowish brown color often containing lymph fluid, sebum, and possibly some blood. Please be sure to rinse thoroughly in the bath or shower removing as much as possible without causing movement to the piercing. If you are ever unsure whether your piercing is healthy and happy please don't hesitate coming by the shop so a piercer can take a look. We would rather see you too much than not enough.
